Liberty Healthcare Corporation (Liberty) has entered into a corporate partnership with The LifeCourse Nexus — the Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC) framework — to enhance programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families.
Driven by the core belief that all people have the right to live, love, work, play, and pursue their life aspirations, the CtLC framework was developed by families to help individuals with disabilities live the lives they want. What started as a grassroots activity evolved into a collaboration led by the Institute for Human Development at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC), a University Center for Excellence (UCEDD) in partnership with many national and statewide stakeholders.
Liberty began integrating the CtLC framework of person-centered values before entering a corporate partnership. In 2021, Liberty announced 16 staff members had become CtLC Ambassadors by completing courses, training, and coaching based on each of the principles of the CtLC framework. In the same year, Liberty of Indiana, an affiliate of Liberty, received the Innovation in Quality Supports and Services Award at the Charting the LifeCourse Showcase for their leadership in integrating the CtLC framework into the provider quality review process in Indiana.
Sharing the same values and beliefs as The LifeCourse Nexus, Liberty’s decision to become a corporate partner provides an opportunity to further integrate the CtLC framework of person-centered practices, policies, and procedures across the organization. This partnership will ensure that Liberty will have up-to-date resources, training, and information to support the continuous implementation of Charting the LifeCourse.
Indiana Quality Program (IN QUAL) Executive Director and CtLC Ambassador Janet Delehanty says, “the Liberty/UMKC Nexus partnership will support the overall strategy for the integration of LifeCourse throughout all of Liberty. It will support Liberty in developing a culture rich in person-centered thinking and organizational planning and support the leadership of Liberty in developing structures for ongoing, shared learning and implementation across programs. IN QUAL will increase its commitment to integrating the CtLC framework by supporting staff to move beyond the role of Ambassador, making them leaders in the company’s Quest for Quality program. Liberty programs will be able to identify areas to enrich the lives of individuals served — as well as the organization — by using tools created by UMKC. Through this partnership, Liberty will distinguish itself as a leader in person-centered planning.”
